The earth will be a little greener, thanks to Disney, The Nature Conservancy and millions of moviegoers. As promised, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has arranged with The Nature Conservancy to plant 2.7 million trees — one for every moviegoer who saw Disneynature’s ‘EARTH’ opening week — in one of the planet’s most endangered rainforests, the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. The vow to plant a tree in honor of every moviegoer during the first week follows the film’s themes of protecting the planet and its wildlife, and ‘EARTH’ grossed an impressive $16.1 million at the box office in its first week, breaking an opening day record as well as an opening weekend record for a nature documentary in the process.
